Banks now require proof of both ID and residence. The former is achieved by the production of a passport or photo driving licence. The latter is supported by a recent utility bill showing name and address.
The rub is that the two MUST support the identity of the individual. In many households utility bills are all issued in one name.
Result: The other partner has an identity problem to which banks are not very sympathetic.
Solution: Ensure that at least one of your utility accounts is in the other partner's name. End of problem.
